The Press Council of Kosovo approves the complaint of YIHR KS against “Indeksonline”

The complaint submitted by YIHR KS against “Indeksonline”, dated January 24, 2023, was aimed towards the publication of the article “Exclusive: Gjon Karrica’s health condition, the unexpected happened”, this article which constituted a violation of the right to privacy and the protection of personal information, a right guaranteed by Article 36 of the Constitution of Kosovo and Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The Press Council of Kosovo (PCK) has concluded that the article in question is contrary to Chapter VII of the Written Media Code. Further, in the response to the complaint, the PCK emphasizes that this article interferes in the private life of the person despite the fact that the same person is a public figure and tracking his personal life, and even more so in matters related to any disease or its manifestation in public, it is considered a breach of personal data and an invasion of privacy.

YIHR KS believes that this decision of the PCK is an important step towards the promotion of responsible and professional journalism in Kosovo. Therefore, this decision must serve as a call to all media that their reports must be published in full compliance with the principle of respect for basic human rights and freedoms.
